Ryan has been working with Google Quantum AI since it was founded in 2013 and joined the effort full time in 2015 upon receiving his PhD from Harvard University. The team Ryan manages focuses broadly on quantum algorithms with applications ranging from machine learning to differential equations to cryptography. However, Ryan is perhaps best known for his individual work on developing some of the best scaling approaches to simulating quantum chemistry and condensed matter physics on quantum computers, with applications in domains such as drug design, battery development and nuclear fusion.
